Integrated nonlinear optics

In this research area we study the realization of nonlinear optical functionalities on a silicon-based waveguide circuit. Several applications and associated wavelength ranges are considered, ranging from the visible/near-infrared (e.g. for CARS spectroscopy) over telecommunication wavelengths (e.g. for wavelength conversion) to the mid-infrared (e.g. for the generation of mid-infrared radiation). Both third order and second order nonlinear effects are considered. The integration of highly nonlinear materials on silicon-based waveguide circuits is explored.
