Dr. ir. Fabio Pavanello (Postdoctoral Researcher)
This person worked in the group from 2016 till 2019.
Fabio Pavanello received in 2010 his M.Sc in Physical engineering from the Polytechnic of Turin in Italy. He then received in 2013 his Ph.D degree in Electrical engineering from the Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnologies (IEMN) - CNRS (University of Lille I) in France for work performed on uni-travelling carrier photodiodes (UTC-PDs) for THz frequencies generation. His work included design, clean-room fabrication and characterization of UTC-PDs.
Since Jan. 2014 till Jun. 2016 he has been working as a research associate at the University of Colorado - Boulder on the DARPA project POEM with the objective to achieve efficient and high bandwidth optical links for CPU-to-DRAM communications. His research focused on the design and characterization of photonic devices (modulators, gratings, etc.) fabricated on advanced CMOS platforms (45nm SOI and 65nm bulk) for monolithic electronics-photonics integration.
Since Sep. 2016 he joined the INTEC photonics department and is currently working on the MIRPHAB project which aims to provide a reliable supply of mid-IR photonic components for analytical sensing systems. His work deals with the development of photonic building blocks and advanced systems within IMEC's mid-IR platform (under development).Specific Research Topics
